Hero Bio:

Alfred Perry Liston was a native of Lincoln County and lived his life there. He was born at Meadow Valley Wash near Caliente, Nevada, on the 4th of February, 1891. For some time he was connected with the meat market at Caliente and at one time worked as a meat cutter in Ogden, Utah, but tiring of the business he decided to go East and prepare himself as a chiropractor. Accordingly, he went to Davenport, Iowa, and entered school. But the country soon sent out a call for its young men to join the colors and the Nevadan offered his services on the 11th of December, 1917. He was sent to Washington, D. C., and placed in the Quartermaster Corps on account of his former profession.

In this branch he had risen to the rank of mess sergeant, when he was taken sick with influenza and sent to the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington. There he succumbed to the disease on October 18th, 1918. The remains of the young Westerner were sent back to his home in Caliente, where he was buried with military honors by his lifelong friends. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Liston of Caliente, Nevada, who survive him, as do his sisters, Mrs. Isabell Keel, Panaca, Nevada; Mrs. Lizzie Hallows, Richfield, Utah; Mrs. Della, 3439 Washington Street, Ogden, Utah; brothers, W. H. Liston, St. Thomas, Nevada; B. R. Liston, Bishop, California; F. G. Liston, 427 Mill Street, Reno, Nevada; E. R. Liston, Caliente, Nevada; J. H. Liston, 14 ½ So. 4th Avenue, Yakima, Washington. His loss was a severe blow to the community where he was known to the whole population.
